Business finance is about creating value for stakeholders which makes it a rewarding and challenging field to work in. In this specialization, students will learn how to make decisions based on financial risk and opportunity, anticipate their clients’ needs and efficiently manage financial resources while balancing risk and profitability. Through a clear understanding of financial instruments and institutions, students will graduate with sound business ethics and a comprehensive overview of global finance.
Students may choose to study either the six-semester program (option 1) with 210 ECTS or the seven-semester program (option 2) with 240 ECTS.

Career Options

The Bachelor of Science in Business Finance degree provides students with business knowledge and specialist skills in finance including bank and treasury management and security management. Students who successfully complete this degree may be interested in the following job positions:

Financial Planner

Financial planners, or personal financial advisors, looks after the financial interests of individuals, families and/or businesses to help them reach their short- and long-term financial goals. They will analyze their clients’ debt, expenses, investments, savings and insurance plans, among other financial obligations, to create recommendations. These may include investment and saving options. For success, they will need to develop a trusting relationship with clients.

A financial planner should have skills in communication and business development as well as data analysis.

Accountant

Accountants prepare and examine financial records, ensure tax payments are made on time and correctly and write financial reports, among others. They are responsible for ensuring that financial statements and records comply with local laws and regulations. In companies, accountants are in charge of overseeing financial operations and are often required to suggest ways to reduce costs, increase revenue and improve profits. They will provide financial information and recommendations to management.

To succeed as an accountant, professionals should possess knowledge of accountancy and corporate finance and reporting skills. They must pay attention to detail.

Budget Analyst

Supporting the financial strategy and resource allocation of an organization are budget analysts. These professionals develop, evaluate and implement budgets and estimate the financial resources needed by the organization in the future. Their tasks also include allocating and managing resources and performing cost-benefit analysis and elaborating funding recommendations for new initiatives. Part of their job function will be to identify ways to improve efficiency and increase profits.

A budget analyst will need mathematical skills as well as strong communication skills to defend budget proposals to management. Knowledge of spreadsheets, data base and financial analysis programs are required.

Trader

Traders buy and sell investment products such as bonds, equities, commodities and foreign exchange. Employers include investment banks, financial houses, exchanges and treasury departments of large corporations. Their tasks include gathering and analyzing market and company information, making prices for specific products and providing trading information. A strong résumé for a trader will include their ability to search out leads and predict market trends.
